How to play - Omaha Hi Lo

Omaha Hi/Lo – How to play guide

Omaha Hi/Lo is another version Omaha. In this variation of the game betting blinds and posting are exactly the same as in Omaha. The only difference is at the showdown where the pot is split between the holder of the highest hand and the holder of the lowest hand if the low hand qualifies.

A low hand consists of 5 distinct cards with no pairs and no card higher than 8. As you must make a hand from two cards and three on the table all of the cards must be 8 or lower to qualify.

Straights and flushes do not count. The best low hand is Ace-2-3-4-5 of any suit. Ranking will start with the highest of your low hand so 7-6-5-4-3 is 8 low. If two players a low hand with the same hi card, the next highest wins. So 7-5-4-3-2 beats 7-6-4-3-2. If there is no low hand in the game the pot goes to the player with the highest hand!

The game is structured the same as Omaha with each player having to make a five card hand. Players are dealt four cards face down, called their ‘hole cards’. The dealer will then deal 5 cards face up in the middle of the table. These are known as the community cards and can be used by each player to create their hand. The difference between Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo is that in the prior each player potentially has two cards, a high hand and a low hand.

If there is no low hand the player with the best high hands wins the entire pot! If there is a low hand and a high hand the pot is split between the winning players. A player can also win the whole pot if they have the best high hand and the best low card with the same hand.

Now you’re ready to play!
